Beaudesert Shire Library Services
Beaudesert Shire, south of Brisbane and west of the Gold Coast, is home to 65,000 people in one of the fastest growing areas of South East Queensland. The Shire covers an area of more than 2,854 square kilometres and offers a unique combination of natural beauty, rural ambience, community spirit and business opportunity while ensuring a vibrant and dynamic future. World Heritage listed wilderness areas, ancient rainforests, spectacular rugged mountain ranges and wineries attract Australian and overseas visitors, making tourism one of the Shire’s fastest growing industries.
Our Shire has a rich heritage since European settlement in 1842 and the Beaudesert Shire Library Services maintains a small Local and Family History collection to represent the history of farming, forestry, families, tourism and the topography of the developing region. The collection includes a variety of genealogical resources, works by local authors, histories of local schools, churches and other organisations as well as local newspapers from 1899 to 2004 on microfilm.
A major aim of the Beaudesert Shire Library Services is to enhance our Local and Family History collection by recording and preserving our local cultural history through the collection of photographic records, oral histories and important historical documents. We began collecting images early in 2006 with donations from people in the community.
