The Barcaldine Library began its image collection with a 'community drive' to obtain local images to digitise for inclusion in Picture Queensland.

Barcaldine is a small rural town and shire with a population of approximately 1800. It is located in central-west Queensland and provides a centre for the cattle and sheep industry. Every street in Barcaldine is named after an Australian native tree.

The Barcaldine Library offers a full range of library services to the community including microfilm copies of the Western Champion from 1892 -1932.
