Screensavers

From the beautiful islands of the Great Barrier Reef to outback pioneers, these Picture Queensland screensavers show the rich diversity of Queensland's environment, history, culture and people. The screensavers were developed for the State Library by Liveworm.

How to download and install the screensavers for a PC

  1. Click on the screensaver that you wish to download.
  2. Click Save and save the file anywhere on your hard drive (c: drive). This could take several minutes on a normal dialup connection.
  3. When the download is complete, click Open (or find the file you downloaded to your computer and double-click on this file and then click Open).
    The file will be called either:
    historic_queensland.exe
    scenic_queensland.exe
    queensland_advertising.exe
    queensland.exe
  4. Click Install.
  5. When the installation is complete ("Installation successful") click Yes in response to the question, "Would you like to open the screensaver control panel?
  6. Select the screen saver from the drop down list. It will be called "Historic Queensland" or "Scenic Queensland", or "Queensland Advertising" or "Queensland".
  7. Click Preview, if you wish to preview the screensaver.
  8. Click Apply.
  9. Click OK.

Your screensaver should start displaying after your computer has been inactive for the wait period.

Frequently aksed questions for PC users

Q: How do I change my screensaver?

A: Open Control Panel (eg., START > SETTINGS > CONTROL PANEL > [APPEARANCE] > DISPLAY and select the SCREENSAVER tab. You will find a drop down box that lists your available screensavers.

Q: How do I change the amount of time before my screensaver starts displaying?

A: Open Control Panel (eg., START > SETTINGS > CONTROL PANEL > [APPEARANCE] > DISPLAY and select the SCREENSAVER tab. You will find a drop down box labeled "Wait". Set the interval before your screensaver starts displaying on your computer.

Q: What should I do with the *.exe file I downloaded? Is this file required after I have successfully installed the screensaver?

A: No, the *.exe file you downloaded is not needed after you have successfully installed the screensaver - you can go ahead and delete this file.

Q: Can I change the settings for my screensaver - speed, resolution, randomness, etc?

A: No, the settings are constant. Clicking the settings button offers the choice of returning to the screensaver's web page or linking to the State Library of Queensland's home page.

Q: How do I remove my screensaver?

A: Go to START > SETTINGS > CONTROL PANEL > ADD/REMOVE PROGRAMS. Scroll down the list and select the screensaver that you want to remove. Click ADD/REMOVE. Click yes to the confirmation message and all files relating to the screensaver will be removed.
